I’ve read more than I can count over the years. There are a lot of helpful articles out there by various indie game developers on preparing for PAX. Sure, yeah, I'd love to be playing this game against the one friend who already owns it but even ignoring that I want to technically be a cheapskate here, I'm more focused on the idea that people are almost certainly not doing the dev any favours if they've convinced him to place this 1v1 indie MP-only game at the same price point as, say, out-of-early-access Subnautica. The real ones are even cooler than this these are old prototypes.įor the past year I’ve been meaning to write up how it went, and this year’s scramble to get ready for the fast-approaching show made me realize that if I don’t do it while it’s fresh in my mind, I’ll never do it, so here goes… How Much Does it Cost (me) to Take an Indie Game (SpyParty) to PAX? How many people who've never played chess in their lives would enjoy watching a game of chess being played? Chess is a game where you pretty much can't enjoy watching others play it until you've experienced the mechanics and thought process in play for yourself, so sure the comparison to chess is apt from that point of view but also (possibly inadvertently) pretty much then renders all the "watch gameplay videos to get the feel for it" recommendations moot, at least if you accept my previous assertion about watching other play chess.Īs true as it might be, me suggesting that I'd already own it if it were $15 isn't really a useful comment to make, but to take on board suggestions from people who already own the game to charge more, that's really questionable logic to follow through on. I see a lot of chess comparisons made in the threads in reference to this game. This game is absolutely obviously the epitome of a "You have to try it for yourself to really appreciate it" game. I'm kind of surprised that this isn't a more commonly made point. Its easy for people to say he should sell the game at a higher Price Tag if you already bought it cheaper. It might just be my opinion, and I wasn't really meaning it in a way that calls anyone greedy, just maybe the price wasn't fully appropriate/suitable (for want of a better word). It's nice to have a reply that isn't somone trolling or being salty. But I completely understand that at first it looks like some simple and cheap game that shouldn't be worth as much.

Most of the players who played this game agree that the price is justified. I'm just saying so you don't think it's because it's a greedy dev or anything. That's mainly why the price was increased after steam release. It was actually the players who told checker that he is underselling his game and that he could charge more. the price was mostly a community decision. The game looks fun and I would like to get it, but that price seems way too high to me, looking at the videos and screenshots it looks like the game should be about half that price.ītw.
